Ayurvedic Formulation Need Standardization and Quality Control

| Sunday, November 23, 2008

There is a great need of standardization and quality control of ayurvedic formulation due to many reasons, some of them are mentioned below :

- Standardization and quality control depends on the nature of crude drugs & compound drugs, on it source i.e. factors associated with the raw materials which are beyond human control like seasonal, geographical, age of the plant, time of collection, type of drying etc. Due to these natural conditions the percentage of the chemical constituents of the drugs does not remain uniform as our expectations.

- The need of quality control for ayurvedic drug is due to the fact that the preparation of drugs according to ancient method has been reduced due to commercialization of Ayurvedic pharmacy during the past era.

- Due to the manufacturing of ayurvedic, Siddha and unani drugs under "drug and cosmetic act 1940"

- To set parameters of individual drug and compound formulation.

- To solve the existence of contrvoversy in some of the ayurvedic drugs.

- To check the intertional or unintentional adulteration.

- To produce finished product of high quality.

- Globalization of Ayurveda has gained momentum and global acceptance of Ayurveda drugs is possible only by manufacturing drugs of highest quality and developing methods for their assessment.
